Delta State Commissioner Izeze Declines 2027 Election Bid, Calls for APC Unity
In a significant move aimed at fostering party cohesion, Mr. Reuben Izeze, the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), has publicly announced that he will not seek any political office in the upcoming 2027 general elections. This declaration comes amidst growing encouragement from his supporters urging him to enter the race.
Speaking exclusively to South-South PUNCH on Tuesday, the former Delta State House of Assembly member emphasized his commitment to bolstering the All Progressives Congress (APC) rather than pursuing personal ambitions. “I have no plans to contest in the 2027 elections,” Izeze stated. “My primary goal is to rally maximum support and votes for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and all APC candidates. I am deeply grateful for the faith my supporters have placed in me, but this is not the right moment for me to run. Instead, I am dedicated to fortifying the party and ensuring our collective success.”
Izeze’s decision is seen as a strategic step to enhance internal unity within the APC in Delta State, where ongoing efforts are focused on strengthening grassroots engagement ahead of the elections. By stepping back from the electoral fray, he believes it will help consolidate the party’s position and promote a more collaborative environment.
The commissioner urged APC leaders and members across the state to remain steadfast and work together to build on the accomplishments of the party’s key figures. “We must prioritize unity and focus on delivering greater benefits of democracy to our people,” he said. “My efforts are fully aligned with advancing the developmental goals of the current administration at both the state and federal levels. I call on all party stakeholders to unite and support these initiatives.”
Highlighting the broader national context, Izeze stressed the critical need for solidarity within the APC, especially as Nigeria navigates important milestones in its democratic evolution. He expressed heartfelt thanks to his backers, acknowledging their encouragement while reiterating that his immediate priority lies in contributing to the party’s overarching objectives.
Beyond his political role, Izeze continues to make a positive impact through his ongoing bursary program, which is entering its second year and has already assisted over 500 students from Ughievwen and Ughelli South. This initiative underscores his dedication to education and community development, serving as a beacon of support for young people pursuing higher education.
In closing, Izeze reaffirmed his strong backing for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and the entire slate of APC candidates for 2027, positioning himself as a key advocate for the party’s continued growth and success in Delta State.
